~~The Early Years~~

Growing up as an Army Brat (an affectionate term for kids whose dad or mom is in the military), Debby used to say, "If I haven't been someplace yesterday, I'm sure to go there tomorrow."  Born at Fort Meade, Maryland, Debby had moved three times by age six when she and her mother boarded a troop ship to reunite with her dad who had been assigned to Japan months earlier.  "The voyage lasted almost three weeks and was anything but plush," Debby recalls.  "My mom and I shared a tiny stateroom with another lady and her children.  The bathrooms were down the hall, and everyone got seasick.  But I was awed by the vast ocean and loved to watch the waves crash against the ship's haul."

In Japan, Debby's family lived in an oceanfront Japanese home with Mount Fujiyama's breathtaking snow-covered peak in the distance.  "It was like living a fairy tale," she says.  " I have wonderful memories of the beautiful country and its warm, friendly people."

Returning to the States when Debby was nine, the family lived in Arlington, VA.  Three years later, they moved to Carlisle Barracks, PA, and then on to Fort Belvoir, VA, the following year.  It was there that Debby graduated from Mount Vernon High School and headed to college at The Ohio State University in Columbus.

As a child, Debby was a avid reader and loved to "publish" newspapers for the neighborhood children.  She wrote her first book at age ten about seven girls, aptly titled WE ARE SEVEN.  She also cataloged all her books into her own personal library and  taught school to anyone who would volunteer to be her student.  But in eighth grade, she discovered a love for science, and when it was time for college, she pursued a degree in medical technology at OSU.

~~Marriage and Family~~

After college and while working as a medical technologist in charge of the Blood Bank at Ireland Army Hospital at Fort Knox, KY,  Debby met a handsome Army Captain who instantly stole her heart.  Six months later, Debby and Tony were married at the Fort Knox Main Chapel in a beautiful military wedding.  After their honeymoon, they headed to Fort Bliss, TX, to start their new life together.

Just like in the early years, Debby and Tony moved often and lived in many places in the United States:  Kirksville, MO; Fort Belvoir, VA; Fort Polk, LA; and even the middle of the Mojave Desert at Fort Irwin, CA.  In 1980, the family moved to Aschaffenburg, Germany.  For three exciting years, they explored Europe and got to know the wonderful people of Deutschland.

Today, with three grown children and an adorable granddaughter, Tony and Debby live in Atlanta, GA.

~~Writing~~

Debby published a few stories when her children were young and her husband was teaching ROTC at Truman State University, but when they moved to their next assignment, the  demands of being an Army wife and mother took most of Debby's free time.  She was actively involved in church ministry and put her writing on hold.  However when the family moved to Georgia, Debby knew it was time to follow her dream and soon had stories published in WOMAN'S WORLD, FAMILY, OUR SUNDAY VISITOR, and numerous other magazines.  She wrote medical articles for ADVANCE FOR ADMINISTRATORS OF THE LABORATORY and served on their editorial advisory board, as well.

Debby always loves to write stories about her family.  Her heartwarming true story of their Christmas outreach is featured in CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE CHRISTIAN SOUL 2, and a story of her family's concern for children in war-torn Kosovo is in CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE VOLUNTEER'S SOUL.

Debby's very proud of SISTERHOOD, a piece she penned long ago as a tribute to Army wives.   Often given as gifts, the calligraphy piece is suitable for framing and hangs in many military homes.  If you'd like to buy a copy of SISTERHOOD or would like information about bulk sales to wives' groups, contact Debby at
Debby@debbygiusti.com.  LEGACY for Air Force wives is also available.

For the last few years, Debby has been writing for SOUTHERN LADY MAGAZINE, a beautiful publication filled with everything a true Southern belle loves . . . elegant tableware, delicate lace, special shopping and dining destinations, yummy recipes and stories about women who have made a difference.  Pick up a copy and see why SOUTHERN LADY is Debby's favorite magazine!

Now Debby spends most of her time writing inspirational romantic suspense.  She's currently working on a story about a returning war hero stationed with the 101st Airborne Division.  Her son is a Captain, serving in Iraq, and is the inspiration for Debby's new story.  Check back often to see how the book is progressing.
~~Faith Journey~~

Debby grew up with a deep faith and love of the Lord.  Her mother taught her about God's abundant mercy and unconditional love and the importance of staying close to Jesus.

Prayer has always been an important part of Debby's life.  "I pray daily for my family and friends and especially for my readers," says Debby.  "When I'm working on a new book and have little spare time, that's when I know I need even more prayer in my life.  Often, I go to church to sit with the Lord and feel His presence.  If I'm having difficulty with some aspect of the book, I ask His guidance.  Usually, the confusion unravels and I can see the direction the story needs to take.  I like to think that in those quiet times, the Lord reveals the story to me."
